Emma - The Bowen Technique
Could you give us an overview of the Bowen Technique?
The Bowen technique is a hands-off hands-on treatment, the therapist uses their thumbs or fingers on certain points of the body making rolling type movements over the soft tissue, muscle, tendon and ligament. In between each move, the therapist leaves the room to allow the response to take effect. The movements the therapist does during the treatment are gentle and the client should experience little or no discomfort, although there will be certain areas which may be tender or sensitive.
What results have you seen from your case studies?
From case studies I have seen many instant results which is so exciting. Unlike a lot of treatments, you can perform an emergency treatment which is so useful if someone is suffering from sciatica or if their back is completely seized up. In many cases after having the Bowen therapy results can be seen straight away and they are moving again. One example of this has been one of my recent case studies, a client couldn't lift her arm or use her arm due to her shoulder being stiff and seized up, after having a treatment she was then able to use her arm again. After a few treatments her arm was completely healed and back to normal.
What makes the treatment different?
Bowen is useful and highly effective when other treatments are unsuitable, especially when frail from sickness or infirm. You can treat babies and it is safe to treat pretty much anyone. There isn't much that is contraindicated from it, the treatment is useful for people who suffer from ME, MS, Hay-fever, IBS, Asthma, Migraines, Constipation and Eczema. It helps the bodies own healing mechanism while using small gentle non-invasive movements around the body and this then sends messages to the brain to help your own body to heal itself. The treatment itself can actually be performed through clothing depending on the material, which isn't very common with body treatments and is good for anyone who doesn't want to take off their clothes. It's really good for pain in your neck, back, shoulder and restrictions.
